Promotion is a special rule in chess that happens when a Pawn reaches the other side of the board (the 8th rank for White, or the 1st rank for Black).

Choose Your Power: As soon as the pawn lands on the final square, it must be replaced by a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight of the same color. Most players choose a Queen!

Infinite Possibilities: You are not limited to the pieces you have already lost. You can have two or even more Queens on the board at the same time if you promote multiple pawns!

The Winning Advantage: Promotion is often the goal of the Endgame. Turning a humble pawn into a Queen is usually enough to win a game that was otherwise a draw.

Strategy Tip: Protect your Passed Pawns—these are pawns that have no enemy pawns in front of them or on the neighboring files to stop their march to glory.

Promotion represents the ultimate transformation in chess, turning the least powerful piece into a dominant force. This rule ensures that every pawn is a potential threat, forcing opponents to remain vigilant even in the late stages of a game. When a pawn successfully navigates the dangers of the board to reach the final rank, it is immediately replaced by a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight. This mechanic not only rewards patient strategy and careful pawn structure but also serves as a primary win condition in many endgames, as the sudden appearance of a new high-value piece can instantly shift the balance of power.

Task 1: March the Pawn to the end! Move the Pawn to e8.
